WISEMAN


The Wiseman history is from Thomas Wiseman (b. about 1750 in England) of Edgefield County, South Carolina. Norfolk Circuit Court in England, 1767, shows Thomas at age 17 convicted of stealing and sentenced to "America" to serve 7 years (white servitude) on a Southern Plantation. Thomas fought in the Revolutionary War in 1776 under Capt. Ewing; Col. Smallwood. In 1790, Thomas is in Edgefield Co., SC married to Agnes, one son, Daniel M. Wiseman (b. 1791).

Daniel Wiseman and wife (b. Virginia) had 5 boys: William C. Wiseman married Lavica Watkins, daughter of Andrew and Catherine Adams Watkins. Second boy was John S. Wiseman (b. 7 March 1817 and died 2 June 1902) married Louisa Watkins. Third son, E. Abner Wiseman, married S.A.E. Clay. Fourth child, Simeon Wiseman, married Nancy ___. Fifth son was James M. Wiseman, married Caroline - with son, Simeon. 

John S. Wiseman and Louisa (d. 2 Nov. 1856). Children were: Frances Catherine Wiseman; John Thomas Wiseman; William Henry Wiseman (born 28 November 1843, died 1 May 1916, buried on the State Hospital grounds, Austin, Texas); Lurana Jane Wiseman; and Louvica Wiseman. After Louisa died, John S. married Rachel Cavness and had two boys. Rachel died in 1868, Bell County, Texas; then John S. married Eliza A. Hyatt Light 9 December 1873 and had 5 children after John S. was 56 years of age.

William Henry Wiseman married Alice Melvina Townsend 12 July 1865. Alice Melvina was a daughter of James Madison Townsend and Fannie Bowles Townsend. William Henry and Alice Melvina Townsend Wiseman had eight children. Third child and 2nd son born 8 September 1867, William Samuel Wiseman d. 6 February 1935, married 8 April 1893 to Mary Etta Adams (b. 25 December 1875, Georgia, d. 30 September 1911, Texas) daughter of Nancy Emma Adams. William Samuel and Mary Etta had 6 children: first son and 5th child was Archie Calvin Wiseman, 7 June 1906 (d. 24 June 1958) married 20 August 1929 Beulah Mae Dunlap (b. 16 December 1908, d. 30 July 1971).

Archie Calvin and Beulah had 5 children in Bailey County, TX. Second son was Billy Ray Wiseman, b. 28 March 1937 (Easter Sunday). Billy Ray married Gladys Mary Striegler (b. 19 Dec. 1936 Hye, TX), on 2 November 1963 in Fredericksburg, TX. Gladys was the 5th daughter and 9th child of 10 children of Victor E. (b. 12 June 1896) and Mary Rountree Striegler (b. 20 August 1900), Johnson City, TX. Victor's parents came from Denmark and Mary Rountree's parents came from Palmetto, GA (Hopkins) and Lynchburg, TN (Rountree). Bill & Gladys have 2 children reared in Tifton. William Samuel Wiseman II, b. 3 October 1966, Manhattan, Kansas married 6 August 1994 Amy Christine Blackwell, b. 14 May 1973 and daughter Amy Lucretia Wiseman, 27 May 1968 in Tifton, GA, married 20 August 1994 Jon Michael Graham b. 10 March 1963. Grandchild: Samantha Camryn Graham, 6 March 2000, Winston-Salem, NC.
